COURTNEY JOHNSON - Bio
Courtney Johnson made her debut as Verdi’s Aida with Opera Maine in July 2024. She joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera as cover for the role of Sadie in Terrance Blanchard’s Champion in 2023.
Courtney Johnson opened the 2024 season at Carnegie Hall as the soprano soloist in the Beethoven Ninth Symphony. She has performed with the Opera Orchestra of New York in Verdi’s I Lombardi along with Angela Meade and Michael Fabiano. She has been a member of the Wolf Trap Young Artist program and the Glimmerglass Opera’s young artist program and a member of the chorus at Virginia Opera.
Courtney Johnson made a notable and successful debut at the Spoleto Festival USA at Charleston as Clara in a new production of Porgy and Bess in addition to singing the Vivaldi Gloria and the Rutter Magnificat for her debut at Carnegie Hall. While at Mannes School of Music she was featured in the title role of Puccini’s Suor Angelica, as Beatrice in Catan’s Il Postino, and as Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte.
Virginia native, soprano Courtney Johnson is a graduate of the Mannes College of Music in New York. She attended the Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk which has produced baritone Will Liverman, and Ryan Speedo Green, Bass-baritone among other American artists in recent seasons.
